BETTER SPEECH & HEARING MONTH
CELEBRATING CONNECTION:
THE POWER OF BETTER HEARING
Every May, audiologists and speech-language pathologists across the country celebrate Better Speech and Hearing Month. At Perth Hearing & Tinnitus Clinic, we are using this time to highlight how vital hearing is to our overall well-being, relationships, and quality of life.
Whether you have been part of our clinic family for years or are just beginning to notice changes in your hearing, this month is the perfect reminder that hearing healthcare is selfcare. Hearing loss is incredibly common, yet it remains one of the most undertreated health conditions. Taking the step to address it—or encouraging a loved one to do so—can dramatically improve how you connect with the world.

HEARING LOSS IS A SHARED EXPERIENCE
While hearing loss happens to an individual, it truly affects the whole family. Communication is a two-way street, and when one person struggles to hear, it can lead to frustration and isolation for everyone involved. If you or someone you love has been putting off a hearing evaluation, May is the
perfect time to establish a baseline. For our current patients, it is a wonderful time to celebrate the steps you have already taken to stay engaged in the conversations that matter most.

3 REASONS TO GET A
HEARING CHECK THIS MAY
- Establish a Baseline: Even if you don’t suspect a severe hearing loss, a baseline audiogram gives us something to compare against in the future.
- Protect Your Cognitive Health: Studies show that actively treating hearing loss helps keep the brain stimulated, reducing cognitive load and listening fatigue.
- Improve Relationships: Treating hearing loss removes communication barriers, bringing you closer to friends, family, and coworkers.
HEALTH, WELLNESS & COMMUNITY
THE BRAIN-HEARING CONNECTION
Your ears collect sound, but it is your brain that actually “hears” and understands it. When you have untreated hearing loss, your brain has to work overtime to fill in the missing pieces of conversation. This extra effort often leads to what we call “listening fatigue,” leaving you feeling exhausted after social events.
For our patients currently wearing hearing devices, your technology is doing the heavy lifting, reducing this strain on your brain! However, if you are noticing that you are feeling unusually tired after conversations again, it might be time to come in so we can adjust your settings.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Over 48 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss. You are never alone in this journey!
- Hearing health is tied to balance, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function.
- Visual cues and lip movements are incredibly helpful. Avoid shouting from another room!
- Saying a person’s name before you start speaking to them helps them know they should tune in.

GET WINTER READY!
As autumn draws to a close and we head into the cooler months, now is a great time to book a Hearing Aid Clean & Check.
Changing temperatures and increased moisture can affect hearing aid performance, so a little preventative maintenance now can help keep your devices working at their best.
We are honoured to be your local hearing healthcare team. Whether you’re visiting for a hearing assessment, tinnitus support, or simply stopping by to have your hearing aids cleaned and checked, we’re here to help.
Refer a Friend
The greatest compliment we can receive is a referral. If you know someone who is struggling to hear conversations or finding communication more difficult than it used to be, encourage them to book a consultation with our team.
Thank you for trusting us with your hearing care.
